My new, old, blue door

My new, old door...
Here is my new, old blue door
that has just moved in to my
casual & coastal family room.
I hung a great old photograph on it
of an old woman feeding ducks by a lake.
It is hanging on a hook that was actually
on the door when I got it.
It has great old chippy blue paint revealing
white paint under neath.
I absolutely adore it.
My husband is a little confused by it.
Initially when I bought it,
I was planning on hanging it over my sofa, long ways,
by the hinges and removing the door jam part.
However, I propped it up on the wall until I could get some help hanging it,
and as decorating fate would have it, I loved it there.
Especially because of the hook.
I am sure one day it might hang over the couch,
but for now it has found its new home.
The only part I am debating is if I should remove the door jam part...
What do you think?

I love it too! My husband is confused by mine also. I have a chippy paint door standing up against a wall in my livingroom as well. It was a door that used to be in the upstairs closest before we did our remodel. When the door was removed it sat outside in the rain for almost two years until I rediscovered the coolness of it from being weathered and brought it back inside. The only picture I have of mine is here http://blessedathome3.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-little-pianist.html
I have since moved it to a better spot and love it even more.
I think the door jam on yours looks pretty neat. I would leave it for awhile. And the hook is to die for! What a lovely display.
Thank so much for your great blog.

I’m with you on this one, Liz. That old door is definitely interesting, in a good way. The chipping paint adds a rustic and rough appeal to it. And the old painting gave it a classic feel. I think you should let the door jamb as it is since it is part of the door. And I’m sure your husband will come to terms with this classic door soon!

If you’re planning to use it as a decor, then I suggest that you remove the door jam part. Perhaps, you could choose some other color than that one, and think of other display pieces that you can incorporate with the door. I'm sure it will look absolutely fabulous!
